Dart points are calculated based on where the dart lands on the dartboard.
The standard dartboard consists of 20 numbered sections (ranging from 1 to 20) and several areas with special point values. Here's how dart points are calculated:
1. Basic Scoring Zones:
- Single Area: If a dart lands in a single section (the wide, single-colored area), it scores the number of points corresponding to that section. For example, if a dart lands in the section labeled "10," it scores 10 points.
- Double Area: If a dart lands in the narrow, double-colored area at the edge of a section (the outer ring), the score is doubled. For example, a dart in the "5" double area scores 10 points (5 × 2).
- Treble Area: If a dart lands in the narrow, double-colored area in the middle of a section (the inner ring), the score is tripled. For example, a dart in the "7" treble area scores 21 points (7 × 3).
2. Special Scoring Areas:
- Bullseye (Center of the Board):
- Outer Bullseye (green ring): This scores 25 points.
- Inner Bullseye (red center): This scores 50 points.
- Misses: If the dart doesn't land on the dartboard or lands outside the numbered areas, it scores zero points.
3. Example of Scoring:
- Single: A dart lands in the "15" section (normal area) → 15 points.
- Double: A dart lands in the double ring of "8" → 16 points (8 × 2).
- Treble: A dart lands in the treble ring of "6" → 18 points (6 × 3).
- Bullseye: A dart lands in the outer bullseye → 25 points.
- Inner Bullseye: A dart lands in the inner bullseye → 50 points.
4. Common Games Using Dart Points:
- 501 or 301 (Standard Game): Players start with 501 or 301 points, and they subtract the points from their score based on where their darts land. The objective is to reach zero points, typically finishing with a double or bullseye.
- Cricket: Players aim to "hit" specific numbers (20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, and bullseye) three times (one per dart). The scoring involves both hitting numbers and preventing the opponent from scoring by closing out these numbers.
5. Calculating Total Score:
To calculate your total score in a round, simply add up the points from each dart you throw. For example:
- Dart 1: lands in the double 10 (20 points)
- Dart 2: lands in the treble 7 (21 points)
- Dart 3: lands in the single 3 (3 points)
Total score for that round = 20 + 21 + 3 = 44 points.
Understanding how each area on the dartboard contributes to the overall score is key to mastering the game. In competitive play, precision and strategy are crucial in maximizing the points per throw.
